Timing Belts (Synchronous)
Common Tooth Profiles
Common tooth profiles for synchronous belts and pulleys are trapezoidal,
curvilinear, or modified curvilinear, referred to as:

PowerGrip® GT®2
The PowerGrip® GT®2 belt drive system and PowerGrip® GT®3 belt drive system are an advance in product design over Gates’ older standard HTD® system. The PowerGrip GT2 and PowerGrip GT3 systems, featuring modified curvilinear belt tooth profiles, provide timing and indexing accuracy superior to the conventional trapezoidal belt shape. Plus, PowerGrip GT2 and PowerGrip GT3 belts have a higher capacity and longer belt life than trapezoidal timing belts. Pulleys for these profiles are available from manufacturers licensed by Gates Rubber Company
SDP/SI is one of the companies that manufactures a full range of these pulleys, standard and custom.
Advantages of the GT2 and GT3 timing belt and pulley systems:
- Longer belt life
- Precision registration
- Increased load-carrying capacity
- Quieter operation
- Precise positioning
