Internal & External Spline Gears
There are two types of splines: internal and external. A spline is a series of teeth on a drive shaft that meshes with grooves in a (mating) gear. The surfaces of the spline and the gear allow for smooth transfer of force along a straight line and can generate higher torque due to the uniform distribution of the load across the teeth. Since splines can handle high rotation, they are commonly found in the automobile industry, the aerospace industry, and excavation. Our splines are precision rolled with straight sides; the bushings are broached. Spline bushings can be press-fitted or fastened to components which require relative axial motion with respect to the spline.
Performance considerations include number of teeth, length, pitch diameter, and face width; environmental factors include heat and corrosion. Our splines are available in carbon and stainless steel. Internal spline bushings are priced per piece. External spline bushings are priced per stock length. Discounts are available for large-quantity orders.
