Precision Straight Tooth Bevel Gears
Bevel Gears are used in applications where power between shafts intersect at a 90° shaft angle. Bevel gears can generally be divided into two categories: Spiral bevel gears, which have helix angles, and straight bevel gears, which do not.
The most basic type of bevel gears are straight bevel gears (see Fig. 8-5), which have teeth that are straight and point in the direction of the cone's apex or highest point. Bevel gears generate axial thrust when they rotate due to their conical shape. The direction of gear rotation can be inferred from the direction of axial load. However, after heat treatment, they have the drawback of being unable to polish the teeth. To read more about bevel gears click here
