NOTE 1: The maximum torque that is given above as 150 ozf in. is the maximum instantaneous or constant torque that the coupling can safely transmit for reliable service when the three asterisk designated values are all at zero.
The following formula is used to compute the rated torque for a given set of application conditions:
* If one of the asterisk designated values is at maximum, the other two must be zero. The percentages of maximum of each of the asterisk designated values, when added, should not exceed 100% for reliable service. For example, if the shafts that are connected by a S9901Z-G404 series bellows coupling are parallel misaligned .005, angularly misaligned 2°, and mounted such that the bellows will have to compress .009 from its free position when in use, then the .005 of parallel misalignment is 33% of the .015 total allowable, the 2° of angular misalignment is 40% of the 5° total allowable, and the .009 of axial compressive deflection is 20% of the -.045 total allowable. The sum of these percentages (33% + 40% + 20%) is equal to 93%. The safe load that can be transmitted under these conditions is 80.25 ozf in.
